Spice up your summer

How is it already August?! Get out and see these performances before the summer is over.

July 21-Aug. 20 – La Havana Madrid – Goodman Theatre

Celebrating Chicago’s Latinx community with music and theatre. Written by and starring Sandra Delgado this story explores a 1960s Lakeview.

July 29-Aug. 20 – HIR – Steppenwolf

Aug. 10-13 – Theory of Relativity – McKaw Theater

Aug. 11-13 – Chicago Hot Dog Fest – Chicago History Museum

Ok, so not exactly a performance. But a fun fest with local bands and activities. I do love the band Sixteen Candles who is headlining on Friday the 11th. A spicy event for all ages, no ketchup allowed.

Aug. 11-12 – Tchaikovsky Manfred Symphony and Horn Concerto World Premiere – Grant Park Music Festival

Aug. 13 – A Tribute to the Gershwins and Leslie Odom Jr. – Ravinia

This is my choice of Ravinia shows this summer. A double feature with the CSO and then Hamilton star, Leslie Odom Jr. Only $20 for lawn passes to both! I’ve been obsessed with his cover from Spring Awakening above.

Aug. 19 – Dance for Life – Auditorium Theatre

One of my favorite dance events of the year. It is a great coming together in the Chicago dance community to support an important cause, the  AIDS Foundation of Chicago and Chicago Dancers United’s Dancers’ Fund.
